Join us at the unique Hat Ranch Gallery, located on the Historic Turquoise Trail, for a day of botanical dyeing using the bundling technique.
Itinerary:
10:30 AM Introductions, followed by demonstrations and instruction by workshop instructor and textile artist, Wendy Katzman.. We will discuss the history of natural dyes, terminology, various pre-treatment (mordant) methods, color shifting pre and post mordants, botanical materials and background color dyes. Next will be hands-on use of materials, where each participant will create their own unique garment. Several different color-producing dye baths will be on hand to create your desired background color. When all are finished and the bundles go into the steamer, we will break for lunch and have open Q&A time. During our lunchbreak, you will also be able to look around the beautiful Hat Ranch Gallery, and shop to your heart’s content. Bundles will be steamed for 90 minutes. During this time Wendy will be showing samples of her work and discussing additional methods of botanical dyeing.
2:00 PM (approximately) Bundles will be removed from the steamer, cooled, and we will go outside to reveal our creations. We will share our results.
